Setting up the stage for installing Informatica 8.6.0
August 26, 2012
This post shall help you out to get your Informatica 8.6.0 installed on Windows7. I just did it with a Database as SQL Server 2008 already installed on my PC. I had a bit of struggle in getting up things initially and had to install and uninstall plenty number of times and finally to get one good and proper installation done on my PC.
Before we start the SETUP being run we have some very important settings to be done and get the stage set for the installation to run with no chance of failing.
Important: First we have to create a couple of environment variables on our computer, this can be done by right clicking on to MyComputer and select ‘Properties’. Now select the ‘Advanced System Settings’ there and in the system properties select the “Environment Variables”. We have a default Variable ‘Path’ all we have to do is change the Path Variable vale to – “D:\Informatica\PowerCenter8.6.0\server\bin;D:\Informatica\PowerCenter8.6.0\java\bin;”. Here I have given the path were my Informatica shall be installed (Drive D:\Informatica\ PowerCenter8.6.0).
Also we have to define one new Variable named ‘INFA_JAVA_OPTS’ with the value as “D:\Informatica\PowerCenter8.6.0\java\bin”. And here we are set for the installation to begin. Also there is one more change that has to be made before we can start the installation, the install.exe requires to be made to run copatibe to Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and this can be changed by right clicking on the install.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility tab and select the required compatibility mode. And we are done to kick start the installation. I have just posted the installation steps in the next post – http://bit.ly/NoX3pO.
Hope this helps, read and share 🙂

@Balaji: Can you be more precise, when did you face this issue? also make sure you have a right installation setup available for Informatica.
